As one of efforts to minimize physical interactions & the spread of COVID-19, Maersk Indonesia will enforce full usage of the “Electronic Bill of Lading” access to all customers who use Original Bill of Lading (OBL) documents. By utilizing this feature, customers will no longer need to come to Maersk counter for printing the OBL (1st issuance). Customers can directly print documents with Secure Paper anytime and from anywhere.
Customers who always use the Seawaybill document type, are not required to register for E-BL access (Seawaybill has automatically been uploaded to the website & does not require Secure Paper for printing - You can print directly from your site by using white paper in A4 size & no need to go to Maersk counter).
Benefits
- Customers can directly print OBL via the web (web printing access) anytime & anywhere.
- FREE OF CHARGE for registration as well as with the Secure Paper (provided by Maersk)
- Save more time & money. No need to come to Maersk counter for printing OBL (no need to queue & pay IDR 400,000 for one-time print - 1st issuance) anymore.
Click here to see the advisory.

Demmurage and Detentation calculation for special
Demmurage and Detentation calculation for special extended freetime change effective January 1st, 2019
We will change the calculation method for our Export detention and demurragefor customers with special extended free time from traditional to progressive tier structure. After the extended free time expires, any additional days will be subject to the demurrage and detention charges as per the relevant day count in our tariff tier structure. This means that the subsequent demurrage and detention charges beyond extended free time will not automatically be calculated basing on the tariffs of 1st tier as before. The starting point of free time is counted from the date empty container is picked up.
Special extended free time: 10 days
Date of gate out empty: 1 November
Freetime ends: 10 November
Date of gate in CY: 12 November
Detention day: 2
How to Calculate

NOTE: From 15 August 2020, Free Time deals will be applied based on the effective deals at the Price Calculation date – PCD.
Tariff Charges of Indonesia Export Free Time below will be effective from 15 February 2021
Effective from Price Calculation Date February 15, 2021, we hereby notify you the following change at our Export Detention tariff calculation in Indonesia. Advisory here.
Maersk will use a Progressive method to calculate export detention charges upon expiry of the freetime.
The tariff itself and the agreed free time will not be affected by this change.
To explain the new method:
Progressive means: For customers with special deals, after the extended free time expires, any additional days will be subject to the detention charges as per the relevant day count in our tariff tier structure. This means that the subsequent detention charges beyond extended free time will not automatically be calculated basing on the tariffs of 1st tier.
Please refer to the below table which shows the change using a hypothetical example of a customer with a special free time agreement for Dry 40´ in Indonesia:
A customer that has 14 days of freetime in place, returns the container on day 24.

Pre-cooling of Cargo
It is of utmost importance that the cargo is pre-cooled to the prescribed carrying temperature prior stuffing in order to avoid damage to the cargo during transportation.
Ideally, the carrier accepts those commodities which have been pre-cooled to the correct transport temperature.
Commodities that are not adequately pre-cooled prior to loading into the reefer container place an undue stress to the container's refrigeration system. This may affect the refrigeration system's performance.
Pre-cooling of Container
- Pre-cooling of reefer containers must be avoided.
- The reason for not pre-cooling the container is that a lot of condensed water will be produced as soon as the doors are opened, if the ambient temperature is high.
- Pre-cooling of a container should only take place in those cases where the cargo is transferred into the reefer container in a cold store.
Hotstuffing
Cargo which has not been cooled to its carriage temperature prior stuffing is deemed to be hot cargo- and if the same is consequently stuffed in the container, the container is deemed to be hotstuffed.
The reefer container is designed to maintain the set temperature for carriage and not to bring down the temperature of the commodity.
Hotstuffed cargo will give rise to the following:
- Poor circulation of air inside the container leading to some of the cargo not being cooled adequately.
- Frequent defrosting cycle due ice formation on the evaporator during which time the cooling apparatus shuts down.
- Cargo damage due condensate re-freezing on the cargo/packing leading to claims at the destination port.
Maersk strongly advise against hotstuffing of cargo in our reefer containers but if the shipper insists and is willing to take full responsibility for cargo damage and possible claims, then the Bill of Lading will be claused as such.
Others
LOI - Request of Changing Temperature
- need to be provided when request changing temperature once container already gate in.
- be noted that this request will be charged USD 50.

Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR) |
Information
Definition It is a card issued by JICT to exporter/shipper after the exporter/shipper pays all costs and hands over required documents to JICT. The card contains the following information crucial to the loading process:
Features: It is imperative that the yellow card is obtained by the shipper and returned back completed in its entirety to the relevant port department to ensure that the container will be on the terminal's loading plan. |
Item
Seals |
Information
Container seals are essential in guaranteeing the safety of the cargo inside the container. To aid our customers in attaching the designated seal to a particular container, Maersk have instructed our depots to provide to the freight forwarder a plastic bag containing the seal with the corresponding container number written on the plastic. By ensuring that the seal is correctly attached to the designated container, the shipper has to a large extent secured the safety of his cargo until arrival to its final destination. Any container with broken or damaged or missing seals is automatically considered suspect by Maersk and the same is canceled from loading until such time that a survey including officials from the terminal, customs, shipper's representative, Shipping line representative are present, a tally taken of the cargo and then the box is re-sealed if all in order. |
