In June, experts from across the world of logistics and supply chains descended on Birmingham, United Kingdom, for Multimodal – an event connecting a community of shippers, retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and exporters with their logistics providers.

As well as being one of the key events on the logistics calendar, Multimodal also hosts the prestigious Multimodal Awards, acknowledging excellence and innovation within the logistics and transportation industry. Experts and customers across the industry nominate and vote for the awards via an independent software system. By recognising outstanding companies and individuals, the awards inspire others to strive for excellence, push the boundaries of what is possible and drive the industry forward.

This year, Maersk UKI were awarded the Multimodal 3PL (third-party logistics) Supplier of the Year 2023, recognising excellence in logistics and supply chain management.

“It’s an honour to win this award. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the entire Maersk UKI team whose hard work and unwavering dedication has made this possible. Huge thank you to our customers and partners who have trusted us with their business and leaned into our strategy. It is this support and belief in our capabilities which has allowed us to push boundaries, embrace innovation and find the value and improvements in their supply chains. Our success would not have been possible without colleagues' and customers' commitment to collaboration and making the Integrator strategy come to life every day,” said Gary Jeffreys, Managing Director for Maersk UK & Ireland, who accepted the award.

The need for digitisation in logistics

At the event itself, conversations showed there is still a way to go for the industry when it comes to digitisation. “As an industry, we are really lagging behind when it comes to digitisation. If you compare us to the banking industry, the air industry, we’ve got a long way to go,” said Samantha Brocklehurst, UKI Area Head of Customer Experience.

Recent geopolitical events have made it clear that the logistics industry must accelerate the shift towards digitisation in order to build robust supply chains capable of overcoming any future challenges. “It’s about all coming to the table and really collaborating as an industry to make sure we are setting the stones in today, past 2030 and beyond, to make sure we can continue to grow and scale,” explained Brocklehurst.
