Processing your claims just got easier

If you are faced with an unforeseen event, the last thing you want to deal with is a lengthy claims process. In the event of a claim, please notify the concerned parties immediately.

Our simple three-step claims process enables you to focus on more important business while we handle the rest. Please reach out to our Claims Team with the completed claim form and supporting documents as mentioned below.

How to submit a claim?

Send the first notification of loss
Inform us immediately if you find your cargo is damaged, or in case of a loss, by sending an email to cargoinsuranceclaims@maersk.com with your Bill of Lading (BL) or shipment number.
Gather your documentation and submit your claim
Please use our checklist below to ensure all documents are completed before submitting the claims. We can only process the claims when all required documentations are received. Once you have all the documentations, please submit your claim by sending an email to cargoinsuranceclaims@maersk.com
Receive an answer
We will notify you when our team has received all the necessary documentation to assess your claim.

Claims checklist

Each claim is unique and therefore, the documentation may vary. However, we require original copies of all the relevant documents to process your claim.

Duplicate / Commercial Invoice and Packing List
Bill of Lading Number / Signed Bill of Lading with conditions overleaf or Negotiable / Signed
Airway Bill with conditions overleaf
Copy of the Contract covering the internal transit for inland transportation
Short-Landing Certificate issued by the relevant authorities
Delivery Order / List (for any damage and / or loss noted on the shipment)
Storekeepers Report
Photographs of damaged goods and/or container
Any other documentary evidence in support of the loss and / or damage
Authorisation letter to insurer from consignee in the event that the supplier is authorised by the former to handle and act on their behalf including receiving the claims proceeds
Claim Bill

We suggest submitting as much documentation and evidence upfront to substantiate the claim (loss / damage), to help our team resolve your claim quickly.

Cargo insurance covers physical loss or damage to goods transported by sea, road, rail, air, post, or other means. It protects anyone with a insurable/financial interest in the cargo—such as buyers, sellers, or intermediaries. Coverage can range from broad 'All Risks' policies to more specific 'Named Perils', with options for standard or customised terms.

An 'All Risks' policy offers the most comprehensive coverage available, but it doesn’t cover every possible risk. Unless specifically included, it will not cover loss of market, loss or damage caused by delay, inherent vice of the goods, war, strikes, riots, or civil commotions. This coverage is now generally referred to as Institute Cargo Clauses (A), or ‘A’ Clauses.

Yes, Maersk Cargo Insurance offers coverage for sailings through these regions under ICC ‘A’ terms. For more information, please see our Red Sea / Gulf of Aden situation updates.

War Risks Insurance provides protection against war-related dangers—like stray mines, torpedoes, or terrorism—while cargo is at sea. It complements your main cargo policy and includes coverage for missing vessels. It also typically includes Strikes, Riots, and Civil Commotions (SR&CC) coverage, either bundled or added by endorsement.
