The Customer

A global industrial Internet company founded in 2013, the customer also acts as the logistics arm of a Chinese e-commerce giant. As part of its commitment to creating customer value, the customer adopts a collaborative approach to logistics that aims to improve efficiency and customer experience for all players along the supply chain. To uphold the e-commerce giant’s mission to make business easy and accessible, it aims to deliver goods in China within 24 hours and across the globe within 72 hours.

The Challenge

The customer needed to export cargo from Hong Kong to Belgium. However, they were held back by extremely high air freight rates from commercial airlines. Adding to this, direct flight capacity from Hong Kong to Liège, Belgium is very limited. And since these were huge shipments, their cargo had to be split into multiple logs to fit the carrier’s air capacity.

The Solution

We were able to offer our own-controlled charter to the customer as we had a complete overview of the route from Hong Kong to Belgium . This included direct services and the required capacity to support the customer’s huge shipment. Through Maersk’s integrated end-to-end services, we could provide better services and shorter timelines than commercial air transport at a more competitive price, with flexibility and reliability.

The Result

Our own-controlled air cargo service minimised transit time while ensuring that several risks for the customer were mitigated – damage risk and delay risk owing to the least amount of transit points used. We were also able to offer great flexibility by giving them the option to adjust the booking size. The customer was extremely satisfied with our delivery and had this to say:
