Our activities impact life on land and in oceans. The ships, trucks, trains, warehouses, depots and planes we use to store and move our customers’ goods impact the environment through resource use, land use change, disturbances, pollution and climate change, which in turn influences the living environments of ecosystems, biodiversity and humans.

Maersk is committed to conducting business safely and responsibly while minimising environmental impact and aligning our operations with local laws and regulations to ensure compliance with environmental requirements. This commitment includes the careful use of natural resources — such as land and raw materials — alongside proactive management of biodiversity and ecosystem risks. We aim to contribute to the elimination of corruption in industries where we are active, and preventing the violation of sanctions and export controls, competition law, and data privacy and ethics that can distort opportunities for social and economic development and destabilize the business environment.

Maersk's policies, approach and governance of business ethics focus on high standards for responsible business practices everywhere we operate, aligned with international requirements and a heightened focus on jurisdictions with greater exposure to risks and potential human rights abuses. The Maersk Code of Conduct provides guidance on what we stand for as a company, and governs how each brand, business unit and employee within Maersk engages with customers, authorities, colleagues, suppliers, the community and other stakeholders.

Maersk's 'speak up' culture, where everyone is encouraged to voice and share concerns and feels safe doing so. This commitment is core to our Code of Conduct and Supplier Code of Conduct, and supported by strict zero-tolerance and non-retaliation policies for our employees. Maersk Whistleblower is a key process and independently managed reporting channel for employees and external stakeholders; it is available in 73 languages to ensure access to grievance and remedy across our global operations.

Maersk relies on a global network of some 40,000 suppliers to support our business and create value for our customers. Our operations and purchasing decisions impact social, environmental, and economic conditions, in our industry, across global supply chains, and in the communities we serve. Our commitment to act responsibly and with integrity in all tax matters is part of our core values, and we work closely with tax authorities to ensure that we fully disclose relevant information and pay the correct amount of taxes in all countries where we operate in accordance with OECD Country by Country Reporting (CbCR) principles, while balancing our shareholder obligations.

We are committed to respecting human rights across our operations and value chain in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct, and the UN Global Compact.

As a global supply chain integrator, Maersk faces a shifting and difficult operating external environment with increased geopolitical tensions and conflict. We actively monitor and address our salient issues, and continue to work with outside experts to validate our existing human rights risks and capture emerging risks.
