Container Weighing Service – Gothenburg, Sweden

From 15th of March 2021 Maersk will implement a Container Weighing Service for all containers exported from APMT Gothenburg in Sweden. This means we will weigh all containers when gated in to the port before loading on the vessel. Consequently there will no longer be a requirement from you to enter the VGM information to Maersk for containers going via Gothenburg. By implementing this process we will have control of the actual weight of all containers, and by that increase the safety for everyone handling the containers in the terminals as well as on the vessels.

On our weekly departure from Gothenburg we have seen a discrepancy between reported weight and actual weight controlled in the terminal. 10% of all containers have a discrepancy of >1000kg (approx. 520 ton in total on the vessel), and 22% of all containers have a discrepancy of >500kg (approx. 640 ton in total on the vessel).

The surcharge for this service is named Container Weighing Service. The tariff will be 295 SEK per container and will be charged to all containers sailing from Gothenburg as of 15th of March 2021.

For your reference, we have also included the levels and rate structure for sample corridor Gothenburg SE – Shanghai CN valid from 15th Mar 2021 until further notice. These may be subject to future change, however we will make sure to notify you accordingly.
