A story of how our flexible supply chain management helped a retailer go all the way.
The customer
A leading international franchise operator, with 90 of the world’s most recognised brands in its portfolio, active in the Middle East & North Africa, Russia, Turkey, and Europe. Our customer has consistently grown and diversified, and today offers their customers an unparalleled choice of brands across multiple sectors such as Fashion & Footwear, Health & Beauty, Food, Optics, Pharmacy, Home Furnishings, Leisure & Entertainment, and Hotels.
The complication
Our customer is one of the leading vendors for most of the international brands in the Middle East. The combination of host brand, customer and multiple vendors always puts our customer in a series of constant documentation challenges due to compliance, accuracy, and timeliness resulting in huge demurrage and storage charges at destination. Moreover, they needed an integrated supply chain management solution to focus on utilising container usage, improve speed to market whilst maintaining end-to-end visibility.
The Maersk solution
Maersk United Arab Emirates (UAE) created a Control Tower for documentation in Singapore and Sweden. Commercial Invoice (CI), Packing List (PL) and Certificate Of Origin (COO) are recreated, legalized/attested out of Singapore and Sweden on a back-to-back arrangement with first leg origins, making all documents compliant at destinations – specifically Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
The result
Our client spent +/- 1.5 million USD for all demurrage and detention. This was minimised to less than USD 3000. Electronic invoice from host brand became more accurate, thus avoiding credit notes and reconciliation between the host brand and our customer.
Maersk has created a tailor-made documentation solution that gave us the full visibility of cargo journey. This resulted in on-time deliveries with major savings in our D&D costs. This optimisation of manual processes and upstream management led to volume growth at lower operational costs.
