Bill of lading clausing, documentationConsignee information must be complete, including the TAX ID, called RUC in Ecuador. Sea way bills are not allowed by local customs. Weight in Bill of Lading must be stated in KILOS and not pounds.
Documentation Requirements
No partial imports accepted, No short shipments, No manual splits are allowed. Please take note of the following information, which must be included under description.
If the physical bill of lading have no CARRIER SEAL and it shows ML-NONE, local customs will open and inspect the container charging a customs fine. Therefore, the CARRIER SEAL is mandatory and the SHIPPER SEAL is optional.
Special Customs requirement
Seaway bills are NOT accepted, Original Bill of lading is required by customs for cargo release.
Others
Electronic information is submitted to local customs systems 72 hours before vessel arrival. Any change to Bill of lading after this time, should be notified to Import Customer Service and pay a fine of USD 1590 in order to update the information in the Customs System.
For all cargo to Guayaquil
Please ensure that the Bill of Lading has to be issued with the correct quantity of boxes and weight of cargo per container, especially for those bills with two or more containers.

- Foreign Consignee is Acceptable if the 1st Notifying Party is a Local Ecuadorian Customer.
- Foreign Shipper is NOT acceptable, Shipping Instruction should be rejected.
Original Bill of Lading (B/L) is necessary to release cargo from customs authorities. If B/L is printed at origin, shipper must send to consignee at least one (1) original B/L in order to release import cargo. No express release accepted. No Sea Waybill accepted.
Any change to Bill of lading after Vessel has arrived to Guayaquil, must be notified and approved by Imports Customer Service Consignee information must be complete, including the TAX ID, called RUC in Ecuador.

Weight must be in kilos and measurement in cubic meters (CBM).
Electronic information is submitted to local customs systems 72 hours before vessel arrival. Any change to Bill of lading after this time, should be notified to Customer Service and pay a respective fine invoiced by local agency and fine added to Maersk’s Bill of Lading, this is needed in order to update the information in the Customs System. If change is made once vessel has arrived there is an additional fine charged by local customs authorities and paid at the Agency. You can reach out to customer service for more information.
