Canada Rail Network Update

We are pleased to inform you of some additional changes within our Canadian intermodal network. Effective March 21, 2021, we will be further diversifying our rail network to and from the Vancouver gateway. On this date, all Dry rail cargo moving between Vancouver and the inland points of Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg will begin moving via Canadian Pacific Railway. The first targeted vessel for this shift on both import and export will be the Northern Julie. Refrigerated cargo will continue to move via Canadian National Railway at this time.

As we continue to see high volumes across the network, this will help to further expand coverage through the Vancouver gateway. This shift will apply to both imports and exports.

Effective Date

This change will take place for vessels loading or discharging on or after March 21, 2021, starting with the Northern Julie. Bookings will reflect the appropriate ramp information. Any bookings that have already been made are in the process of being updated and revised booking confirmations will be sent.

As information, we will now also offer service to and from the Canadian Pacific Bensenville (via Vancouver) and Schiller Park (via Montreal) ramps in the Chicago area. This will not be a replacement to any of our existing routings to or from Chicago, but instead an enhancement to offer expanded coverage in the area. Service is available immediately. If you would like to utilize these ramps, please use the cities of Bensenville, IL or Schiller Park, IL when requesting pricing or creating bookings.

Regarding this new service, please note that Canadian Pacific Railway does not require reservations. However, rail billing does need to be in place prior to containers being allowed to gate into these ramps. Please submit rail billing to NAMRAILBIL@maersk.com. The estimated turn time for rail billing to be completed is up to two hours, so please ensure this is done prior to arrival at the terminals.
