Maersk has introduced a new weekly ocean service connecting the Adriatic with key ports in the East Mediterranean, aimed at improving transit times and strengthening supply chain reliability across a growing corridor.

The Adriatic Service links Koper, Venice, Rijeka, and Ancona with Damietta and Port Said, providing a direct connection between the Adriatic region and Egypt, alongside onward access to a wider Mediterranean network. Developed in partnership with ONE, the service features a streamlined port rotation designed to reduce transit times and improve schedule reliability.

For customers, this translates into greater control and consistency across supply chains. A fixed weekly schedule supports more reliable planning, while improved access to and from Adriatic ports such as Koper and Venice offer strong hinterland connections into key Northern European gateways. By combining shorter sea distances with efficient inland transport links, the service can help reduce overall door-to-door transit times and improve speed to market.

The launch of the Adriatic Service reflects broader market developments across the Mediterranean. Trade between the European Union and Egypt reached approximately €32.3 billion in 2025 (Europa), highlighting the scale and importance of this corridor and the continued demand for efficient transport links between the regions.

Plus, Egypt’s role as a regional gateway further reinforces the relevance of direct Adriatic connections. With total exports exceeding $53 billion in 2024 (OEC), the country continues to act as a key hub linking Europe with markets across the Middle East and neighbouring regions. This positioning enables cargo routed via Port Said or Damietta to reach a broader market without adding supply chain complexity.

Meanwhile, demand for refrigerated transport continues to increase across Mediterranean trades, driven by food supply chains and perishables. Shorter transit times and direct, reliable routing can help maintain product quality while reducing the risk of disruption, making the service more suited to sensitive cargo flows.
