2M alliance between Maersk and MSC to discontinue in January 2025

2M is a container shipping line vessel sharing agreement (VSA). It was introduced in 2015 by Maersk and MSC with the aim of ensuring competitive and cost-efficient operations on the Asia-Europe, Transatlantic and Transpacific trades.

Yes, the 2M alliance is discontinuing.

Following a thorough evaluation process, Maersk and MSC have jointly decided to discontinue the 2M alliance in January 2025.

The changes are currently expected to take place on all the 2M networks, unless otherwise agreed.

Since 2M was formed in 2015, Maersk's strategy has changed, as have the needs of our customers. Maersk wants to accelerate becoming an integrated provider of logistics, connecting, and simplifying our customers' supply chains. Discontinuing the 2M alliance paves the way for Maersk to efficiently focus on our Integrator strategy to meet the evolving needs of our customers.

The 2M alliance will discontinue in January 2025.

We will do our utmost to minimise any disruptions to the 2M service leading up to 2025, bearing in mind any steps needed to wind down 2M.

MSC has been a valuable partner and we look forward to a continued strong collaboration throughout the remainder of the agreement period.

Maersk remains committed to doing our utmost to ensure as little disruption is caused to our customers as is possible in the lead up to the discontinuation in January 2025.
