COVID-19 Updates - Zimbabwe
We would like to offer you our latest update on the outbreak of COVID-19 and any impact to Maersk’s operations in Zimbabwe.
Maersk leadership teams, as well as management in all other areas where cases of COVID-19 have been identified, are closely monitoring the situation as part of our strong commitment to ensure the safety of our employees whilst working towards mitigating any possible impact to our customers’ operations.

1 April 2020:
In order to ensure the safety of the population and to put a stop to the COVID-19 outbreak the Zimbabwean Government has implemented a 21-day lockdown effective 30th March 2020 until 19th April 2020. We would like to inform you that Maersk will remain fully operational with our staff working remotely from the safety of their homes to ensure we continue to serve you our customer.
We are aware of the added pressure on your business in the current situation and would like to offer some assistance to support our customers.
Applicable for the period 30th March 2020 to 19th April 2020 for DRY cargo only export detention will be frozen and considered “free days” for Export Detention calculations – this is applicable for non-essential shipment only where empty containers were collected before 30th March 2020 for shipment during the 21-day period. Empty containers collected on or after 30th March, normal Detention tariffs to apply.
Reefer falls under essential cargo category and should be allowed to move unhindered.
The above measures will be effective 30th March 2020 until 19th April 2020, thereafter standard tariffs to apply.
