Simplified Freight Invoicing

Maersk is pleased to introduce Simplified Freight Invoices making your freight invoicing process easier and more transparent. Are you curious what to expect and how to work with the new process? – Keep on reading!

To make sure that the new invoicing process matches your local needs, every country has its own release date, so please make so to scroll down and take a look at your personal market’s timings.

How does it work today?

If there is a change to the price of your shipment, previously we would cancel the original invoice, then issue a completely new invoice with revised charge and no explanation of how it is linked to the original invoice. Some customers also received a credit note.

Current process:

Original invoice + Credit Note + New adjusted invoice with no link to the original invoice.

How will it work in future?

We are improving our freight invoicing process to serve you better. You will keep the original invoice and we will issue either a partial credit note or a supplementary invoice with improved information detailing the reason for the change.

New process:

Original Invoice + Supplementary invoice/credit note with clear reference to the original invoice.

For example

The above example shows an original invoice (left) where the Basic Ocean Freight was underbilled by $50.00. A supplementary invoice (right) for the $50 is then created. The supplementary invoice will reference the original invoice number and amount as seen on the right.

When will the Simplified Freight Invoices be available in my country?

What if my country is not on the list?

If your market is not part of the release-lists above, nothing changes in your current finance process for now and your local process is likely under review. A release in Vietnam, Egypt, Ukraine, Turkey and Iran is currently not planned.

The dates above are subject to change in case we identify further potential for improvement as we conduct the release process.
