An oil spill involving a non‑Maersk vessel has occurred in the Deurganck Dock area. As a result, port authorities implemented restrictions impacting navigation and terminal access in the Port of Antwerp. While no Maersk vessel was involved in the incident itself, the measures implemented affect all carriers operating in the area, including Maersk services.

Cleaning operations remain ongoing. The Berendrechtsluis and Zandvlietsluis are currently closed pending completion of these activities, with port crews actively engaged; at this stage, the timing for reopening remains difficult to predict. Access to the Deurganck Dock continues to be suspended, and no clear timeline has been communicated for the resumption of traffic. Navigation on the Scheldt River has resumed; however, vessels identified as potentially contaminated are not permitted to sail, which may continue to limit berth availability and terminal operations. The Kalloosluis is operational.

Due to these constraints on locks, berths, and terminal access, delays and potential port omissions are expected for Antwerp and Deurganck Dock calls until early next week. Both inbound and outbound cargo flows are impacted, and a significant backlog of vessel traffic and cargo operations is anticipated once restrictions are lifted.

Our teams are working closely with port authorities, terminals, and operational partners to manage the situation, assess schedule recovery options, and minimise disruption where possible. To be informed as soon as schedules are adjusted, customers are encouraged to sign up for ETA notifications.

We appreciate your understanding during this situation. For shipment‑specific information or support, please contact your local Maersk representative.
