14 November 2023 - Update 02
Maersk have received an updated notification from DP World Australia regarding the latest status of operations across their four Australian terminals, following the recent cyber security incident on November 10.
While all port operations have now resumed, receivals and deliveries (R&D) resources were allocated earlier today to focus mainly on import delivery operations, along with some limited receivals (gate-in for exports), based on vessel priority, and primarily in Melbourne and Brisbane only.
As mentioned on our initial advisory shared earlier today, as result of these events, our customers may experience disruptions to port operations and accessibility along with temporary disruptions over the coming days while DP World performs an ongoing investigation and testing of affected systems.
Our ongoing commitment to you includes providing timely updates as circumstances evolve. Our customer service teams are working on contingency plans for all impacted customers and will reach out to you directly with specific details.
Maersk are also pleased to advise that our networks and systems have not been impacted by the recent cyber-attack on the DP World network.
Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any immediate concerns or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact your customer service team representative.
13 November 2023 - Update 01
We are reaching out to inform you of an ongoing situation that may impact service operations at DP World terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Please note terminal operations at Patrick and Flinders in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle, are not impacted by these events, and services are operating as normal.
On November 10, DP World Australia detected a cyber security incident and promptly initiated response protocols. Their collaboration with cyber security experts resulted in the active isolation and containment of the incident, and the relevant authorities have been duly notified. In response to the situation, the decisive action has been implemented to restrict landside access to their Australian port operations.
As a result of these events, our customers may experience disruptions to port operations and accessibility. While cargo operations are still ongoing, we anticipate low productivity given the prevailing circumstances. It is important to note that even if vessel operations are ongoing, significant disruption may arise if cargo cannot enter or exit the ports. This situation is further compounded by the ongoing industrial action, leading to waiting times of 3-6 days for vessels calling at DP World across Australia.
Maersk services calling at DP World terminals include:
- J STAR (Brisbane)
- EAC (Brisbane, Sydney)
- S STAR (Sydney)
- OC1 (Sydney, Melbourne)
- PANZ (Melbourne)

Impact due to landside access restrictions
Due to the restricted landside access to DP World Australia's terminals, import cargo discharged before 10 November, and still onsite, cannot exit the terminal. Similarly, export cargo not gated in at DP World terminals before the same date cannot enter for vessel loading.
We want to reassure you that we are actively collaborating with DP World teams to navigate this difficult situation. Our commitment to you includes providing timely updates as circumstances evolve. Our customer service teams are working on contingency plans for all impacted customers and will reach out to you directly with specific details.
