Congratulations to the prize winners of this year's Global Hackathon! Fostering a spirit of innovation and experimentation is why Maersk hosts an annual hackathon. It’s exciting to see the ideas and initiatives being worked through by over 500 people who come together from all parts of the company, across 35 countries to hack over 200 ideas that can truly make a difference for customers and colleagues and help to integrate the world of container logistics!

The hack gives people time to put their ideas to the test. Many ideas are validated using this approach, some are discounted, and others will go through the process again until they have a viable solution.

‘It’s this level of experimentation that excites me,” says Krish Srinivasan, Head of Technology, Services and Engineering. “Fostering a spirit of innovation and experimentation is why we host an annual hackathon. It’s exciting to see the ideas and initiatives being worked through by people who come together from all parts of the company, globally. The calibre of ideas this year has been outstanding. Well done to all the teams who submitted their ideas. One day the ships will fly!”

I am excited to co-sponsor this year’s hackathon to unlock innovation in Maersk with the power of 'intrapreunership'! We have a massive and humbling transformation roadmap, so we need innovation as a lever to accelerate the journey by partnering with customers and colleagues, and start-ups, to get the capabilities we need to develop an integrated container logistics experience for customers. The ideas that have bubbled up from the Hackathon will continue to be tested, dropped or refined over the coming weeks and I look forward to seeing the winning ideas put into production.

What happens to the winning ideas and the other ideas?

All the winning teams will be able to progress their ideas with the help of a team sponsor to ensure the resource and investment is in place to further test their ideas and get them into production as soon as possible, where it’s viable to do so.

This hackathon will systematically infuse innovation in our digital platforms roadmap both now and for years to come. The ideas from the winning teams will accelerate the work we are doing around our operational priorities and make it easier to invest and push the ideas into production. The winning teams will therefore get the support and sponsorship they need to progress their ideas and we will also be looking at the other submissions we received, and we will agree on the best approach to validate / take these forward where it makes sense to do so.
