On 30th September 2022,Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) sent an announcement to all customers, regarding introduction of a operations stabilization levy due to the impact of a potential strike by the Transnet bargaining unit employees. A proposal has been made to include an additional (interim) fee within the Terminal Handling Charge (THC), which will be allocated to labour in order to incentivise and contribute to their wage increase at this critical time during the current wage negotiation process. To mitigate the risk of strike at TPT, they will charge an additional levy to be added to the THC (ie. an Operations Stabilization Levy), for the period 1 October 2022 – 31 March 2023.
The levy of R110 will be levied against all container imports, exports, and transhipments handled at the container and the Multi-Purpose Terminals.
Effective 15th October 2022 Maersk will recover this charge in the following way, a fee of R148 will be charged per container (R38 which is the current fuel neutrality fee and R110 for operations stabilization)
- For Exports we will apply Port Additional Export or 3rd Party Fine or Expense Export Charge.
- For Imports we will apply Port Additional Import or 3rd Party Fine or Expense Import Charge for vessels discharging subject to ETA.
