On 10th December 2018, Maersk takes responsible ship recycling further by sharing its approach on the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative (SRTI), an online platform where shipowners can report information on ship recycling against predefined disclosure criteria.

Through this platform, cargo owners and financial stakeholders can access information on different companies' approaches to ship recycling.

By signing up to the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative, Maersk supports responsible ship recycling and informed decisions though voluntary disclosure.

"The SRTI is about responsible leadership driving transformative change of the wider ship recycling industry. Greater transparency of ship recycling policies and practices will enable cargo owners and investors to take more informed and better decisions," says Søren Toft, Chief Operating Officer of Maersk.

Information on the SRTI platform will also be available for the wider public.

“With this launch, we encourage all ship owners to sign up to the SRTI, and cargo owners and investors to start using it," Toft adds.

With the increased transparency, investors and cargo owners can reduce brand risk, align their investments with their customers and be accountable for their supply chain.

Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative

The SRTI is an independent initiative hosted by the Sustainable Shipping Initiative. It reflects a collective effort that brings together the shipping industry, investors, cargo owners and broader stakeholders to improve ship recycling policy, practice and performance.
