At Maersk, your needs always come first. That’s why we continuously try to simplify how you do business with us. Container damages can happen at any stage of your supply chain, and to ensure that you are protected from unforeseen costs due to container damages, we have introduced Container Protect.
When a container is assessed for damages, the damage and repair costs are billed directly to you. This cost is unpredictable and varies according to the extent of damage. Fortunately, now you can plan for this upfront and control the cost.
Effective 1 February 2025 (non-FMC countries) & xxxxxxx 2025 (FMC countries), you can include Container Protect in your shipments. Container Protect will be invoiced along with your destination charges. This surcharge is designed to provide comprehensive coverage against container damage and cleaning costs, ensuring a hassle-free experience for our customers.
What is Container Protect?
Container Protect is available in two variants:
Container Protect Essential provides limited coverage for container damages and cleaning costs across all commodities. If repairs exceed the coverage limit, only the additional amount is billed.
Container Protect Unlimited provides unlimited coverage for container damage and cleaning costs, across all commodities.

No delays: Fast settlements eliminate delays in container returns.
No surprise costs: Container damage and cleaning costs are covered up to the chosen limit and are completely transparent.
How to Purchase Container Protect:
At the time of Contracting: All container damage and cleaning cost disputes are handled by Maersk
Default addition: For consignees, Container Protect Essential is added to the shipment at the time of booking and can be upgraded to Container Protect Unlimited up until two days before vessel arrival.
