What is the process for reporting damage or filing a claim with Maersk Ground Freight?

It is important to distinguish between reporting damage (notifying Maersk and sharing evidence) and filing a formal claim (a request for financial recovery under contractual liability rules). Time limits apply to both and vary based on your specific contract terms. We recommend reporting damage and submitting documentation as soon as it is identified.

To initiate a claim, shippers should follow the designated reporting path defined for their program and provide:

  • Shipment reference number
  • Delivery location
  • Description of damage
  • Photos of the damaged item(s)
  • Photos of the outer packaging and visible impact points
  • A copy of the delivery receipt with damage notations

Claim reviews consider documentation quality, timeliness, packaging adequacy, and the terms governing liability. Missing documentation (especially photos of the original packaging) often delays or prevents claim approval. Additional documentation may be requested depending on the nature of the claim.
