How to surrender the Bill of Lading document to Maersk?

The Bill of Lading can be surrendered at the Maersk office counter or online.

Maersk offers online BL surrender via the electronic cargo release service. This service only applies to Original Bill of Lading or Negotiable bill. This service does not apply to Waybills.

Is there a pre-requisite to place the request
1. Only the transport document receiver party (Bill of Lading owner) can place this request once the Original Bill of Lading document has been issued online.
Is the Original Bill of Lading available online for all customers?
1. No. For the document to be available online the Bill of Lading owner should have signed a Web BL printing agreement. The Electronic cargo release service is only available for customers that have signed the Web BL printing agreement.
What are the use cases where this service could be used?
1. Shipper can use this service to surrender the BL to Maersk once the consignee has paid commercial invoice. This is convenient to both parties as it avoids courier delays, mishandling and manual document handling. For the shipper it provides control over the BL. Consignee can start the cargo release process and avoid the hassle of physically handling a key shipment document..
What happens when the request is placed online?
1. The BL is surrendered immediately, to allow the Consignee to start the cargo release process.
2. Invoicing is completed within 20 minutes of placing the order.
3. The customer receives an email acknowledgement confirming the successful order processing. The order status can be viewed on Maersk.com.
4. The service charge is visible on the shipment, and the invoice is available online for payment.
Is it a chargeable service?
1. BL surrender via Electronic cargo release is a chargeable service. The charge is identified based on the Bill of lading owner’s country. The Bill of Lading owner country is identified from their registered address.
2. E.g. If the shipment is from Chile to United Kingdom and the transport document receiver party is from Chile then the charge is picked up from Chile i.e. USD 80. However, if the shipment is from Chile to United Kingdom and the transport document receiver party is from Singapore then the charge is picked up from Singapore i.e. SGD 140.
3. If the service is part of your contract, then in some cases the charge may not be applied.
