Our combined offering for the Cape of Good Hope network adds up to:

~340
vessels
3.7
million TEU in capacity
57
services (29 mainliners, 28 shuttles)

This new network will deliver greater reliability, speed and reach with seamless connections to a wide range of transportation products and logistics services. Customers will have the flexibility to choose other transportation modes such as inland, rail, and barge, plus value-adding services like premium quality containers, free-time extension, value protect and energy products.

The Cape of Good Hope network was phased in after the commencement of the Gemini Cooperation on 01 February 2025 due to the safety concerns in the Red Sea. One year later, on 03 February 2026, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announced a change in the routing of one of the shared services under the Gemini Cooperation, Maersk’s ME11 service, transitioning it through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.

Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd will continue to monitor the security situation in the Middle East region very closely, and any alteration to the Gemini service will remain dependent on the ongoing stability in the Red Sea area and the absence of any escalation in conflicts in the region. The safety of the crew, the vessels, and customers’ cargo remains the highest priority, and all necessary security measures will be applied for vessels transiting the area.

As the situation remains highly dynamic, Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk will return to the Red Sea when it is safe to do so. Click below to see what a Trans Suez network could look like. Please note it is just an example and subject to changes.
