Priorities and actions

We focus on supporting our customers as they work to make their own operations and supply chains more sustainable. Customer requirements are incorporated into all our ESG priorities, and we have launched green customer solutions to support their decarbonisation journeys. We also focus on driving accessibility and inclusivity in global trade so it works better for everyone.

Building resilience to supply chain shocks

Supply chain shocks are becoming a new normal, and many of our customers are turning their focus to resiliency. Flexibility, connectivity, and the ability to rapidly respond to shocks in the supply chain have become critical competitive advantages.

As part of our strategy to be the global integrator of end-to-end container logistics, we are developing closer partnership-based relationships with our customers. We are also delivering new technical solutions that help them solve their logistics problems and keep their supply chains running end-to-end.

Accelerating digital transformation

Digital platforms are a key enabler for many of our customers, and we are intent on supporting seamless access to global trade through greater standardisation and improved customer experiences.

Our digital interaction with customers on all available platforms is growing, indicating a huge shift in how customers will engage with us going forward and a validation of our industry-first digital solutions, including instant booking confirmation.

Green logistics solutions

Our customers increasingly factor sustainability and ESG requirements into their logistics decision-making processes, as evidenced by the rapid growth in the number of operators using ESG supplier evaluation platforms such as EcoVadis.

We engage continually with our customers to understand their sustainability challenges and opportunities. Our decarbonisation solutions are developed in close dialogue with a broad range of businesses, and are helping many more deliver on their climate commitments.

Solutions for small businesses

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are the backbone of many national economies, yet they are often disproportionately impacted by current demands for shipping and logistics capacity. SMEs worldwide struggle to find free capacity in an already overheated system, and as calls to their local ports are cancelled.

Twill, Maersk's digital logistics solution for SME company trade, offers direct online booking and shipment monitoring, round-the-clock support, and a knowledge hub for logistics information. To date, the platform has helped more than 8,000 SMEs benefit from simplified access to global markets.

Making trade work better for women

Increasing access to trade also means overcoming the less obvious logistical barriers. The contribution made by women-owned businesses in driving inclusive economic growth worldwide is today recognised by governments and scientists alike.

Since 2018, Twill has supported SheTrades, a platform that connects women entrepreneurs from all over the world to international markets. Maersk’s contributions include the development of a coaching program, where coaches working for Twill or Maersk are paired with a woman entrepreneur from a developing country.
