World’s largest rig going to work

The world’s largest rig, the Maersk Intrepid, arrived in Ølen, Norway on 10 June 2014.

Maersk Intrepid is the first in a series of four ultra-harsh environment jack-up rigs to enter Maersk Drilling’s rig fleet.

The rig will stay here inshore for 50 days. The time will be used for training, installation of third-party equipment and acceptance testing, before it commences on a four-year contract with Total E&P Norge AS on the Martin Linge field.
Maersk Intrepid is the first in a series of four ultra-harsh environment jack-up rigs to enter Maersk Drilling’s rig fleet. The four jack-up rigs represent a total investment of USD 2.6 billon and will be delivered from the shipyards in 2014–2016.
