Category Risk and Guides
To prioritise resources and achieve maximum impact, the Responsible Procurement programme has a focused approach based on high risk categories to drive risk management, continuous improvement, and capability building in our supply chain. The category guides act as a blueprint for carrying out our supplier due-diligence. The assessment questionnaires used for evaluating suppliers are provided for reference.
Zooming in on critical suppliers in high-risk categories
A.P. Moller - Maersk makes thousands of purchasing decisions each year, with a large share of these decisions made at the local level. Our suppliers are spread across the globe and work in accordance with varying standards and cultural norms. Our Responsible Procurement programme aims for risk management, continuous improvement, and capability-building, while also recognising the diversity of practices in our supply chain.
The suppliers we work with through our Responsible Procurement programme all belong to one of the high-risk categories with the highest risk of severe social or environmental impacts.
This provides us with a group of 1,500-5,000 suppliers, that we assess using a combination of audits, self-assessments and documentation reviews, where suppliers’ performance is compared against the requirements of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Third Party Code of Conduct. Where the findings show that suppliers are unable to meet some of the requirements we introduce an improvement plan to anchor more responsible practices.
