Born in Copenhagen in 1913 to Danish shipping magnate A.P. Møller and his American wife Chastine, Mr Møller married Emma Neergaard Rasmussen in 1940. When Mr Møller’s father passed away in 1965, he inherited his father's life work and set upon the task of protecting and managing his father’s legacy. Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller continued to develop and expand the company; and with the establishment of new business units, the expansion of the exploration and production of oil and gas and the transformation into container transport A.P. Moller - Maersk was transformed into the global business we know today.

As a business leader, philanthropist and ordinary citizen, Mr Møller took an interest in things great and small, enriching communities in several countries with investments and donations.

In addition to serving as CEO of A.P. Moller - Maersk and chairing the family foundations, Mr Møller also served on the board of IBM Corporation from 1970 to 1984, on the Advisory Board of IBM from 1984 to 1993 and as a member of the International Council Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. from 1967 to 1984.
