Opportunity

The Berth Planner has the key responsibility for day-to-day liaison between Maersk, port/terminal operators, and vessels to drive day-to-day performance and optimal terminal performance. This person services the focal for terminal vessel operations matters.

The Asia Pacific Ocean Customer Logistics function offers exposure to all activities related to marine operation, capacity, and cargo management within the region and an opportunity to make an impact to customer outcomes via close collaboration with the commercial functions.

In this position, the candidate will be working with Oceania terminals, and have an opportunity to acquire skills and knowledge in the following areas: 

  • Understanding the concepts of operations, commercial and yield drivers
  • Principles of vessel scheduling, vessel management and port operations
  • Improve analytical skills and participating in decision making to optimize service results
  • Learn the dynamics of Oceania trade which is one of key trades in the Asia Pacific Region
  • Stakeholder management and leadership
  • Change management and transformation
  • Exposure to and interaction with stakeholders across Asia Pacific and in Headquarters in Denmark


Key Responsibilities

Scheduling & Proforma Management

  • Driving vessel schedule reliability through schedule optimisation, predicting delays, creating mitigating plans and providing accurate and timely ETA communications to vessel command and agents
  • Manage vessel contingency communication, ensuring all relevant stakeholders are aware of the total cost implications and recovery plan.
  • Implement service improvement initiatives. Own operational performance through understanding of the drivers, risks and performance of the proforma. Provide alternatives for pro-forma improvement via engagement with Network Design team.
  • Makes proposals for contingency management when there are situations at the terminal / port

Bunker and Port Productivity Efficiency

  • Support the game plan by liaising with all stakeholders (terminal, port agents & vessels) to execute required operational parameters prior and during the port stay.
  • Communicate with terminals, global voyage performance centre and vessel command to ensure vessels berth on arrival and minimise waiting time for bunker efficiency.
  • Improve the operating efficiency of our vessels by assessing speed / consumption variations and creating action plans to ensure vessels are tracking against the proforma consumption.
  • Secures and relays any intelligence received from terminals / ports regarding local market and operational conditions
  • Ensures ports/terminals have processes in place to handle Maersk vessels in a structured and efficient way

Process and Performance Management

  • Pro-actively co-ordinate with Ocean Fulfilment leads to take advantage of cross string opportunities and marine processes improvement opportunities
  • Ensure terminal resources are allocated to Maersk vessels in compliance with any SLAs, and pushes for additional resources as/when necessary to ensure schedule and cost integrity
  • Conducts post-mortem reviews of vessel calls to assess and address areas of improvement
  • Performance reporting of the services with understanding on the key performance indicators for the marine execution team.
  • Engage vessel command in supporting the network efficiency improvements and bridge between landside and vessel operational requirements.
