Lead change in ship recycling industry

The completion report for the first two vessels we sent to a ship yard in Alang, India – Maersk Georgia and Maersk Wyoming – was finalised in 2017. It shows that commercially viable and responsible ship recycling in Alang is possible. To move beyond selected yards, more shipowners need to become involved. Also in 2017, we, in partnership with relevant stakeholders, began to develop the wider Alang area, beginning with health capacity, and were instrumental in establishing the Ship Recycling Transparency Initiative. We will continue to create change on the ground and engage with shipowners and other stakeholders to accelerate change.
