Logistics Support
in Humanitarian Crises

The Maersk Group has been able to offer expertise, equipment and financial support to humanitarian crises in many of the regions in which we operate. Recent interventions include the provision of expertise and support following the earthquakes in China (2008) and Haiti (2010), the Pakistani floods (2010) and the typhoon in the Central Philippines (2013).
To ensure that we deliver the best results we have adopted a systematic approach. For major international disasters, when requested by the UN Logistics Cluster, we join the Logistics Emergency Teams. Our level of activity is determined by the scope and scale of the disaster.

"The Logistics Emergency Teams were very quick to respond and have been a tremendous help for the humanitarian community in the Philippines"
John Myraunet, Logistics Cluster Coordinator, World Food Programme

What we can do

When it is right for us to respond, we follow sensible criteria to deliver fast, effective assistance.
Humanitarian crises

Humanitarian crises

We intervene in response to sudden-onset natural disasters that impact more than 500,000 people. We do not engage in man-made crises due to safety concerns.

Experts and people

Pro bono deployment of highly trained experts to join the Logistics Emergency Teams when requested by the UN Logistics Cluster.

Support the UN’s logistics operations with our services and assets.

Develop knowledge internally and assist agencies and governments to improve their preparedness for humanitarian crises, for example by creating a Logistics Capacity Assessment.

Local responses

On a case-by-case basis, support local governments and humanitarian organisations to intervene in major events not served by the Logistics Emergency Teams.

Logistics Cluster Members

To support their efforts, the UN World Food Programme activated the Logistics Emergency Teams (LET). It is an industry partnership formed by logistics companies Maersk, Agility and UPS, which was initiated by the World Economic Forum. The Group joined LET in 2010.
