We operate on open seas, often in very harsh weather. We work with complex equipment on offshore oil platforms. We carry heavy loads, drive trucks, and transport flammable cargo across water and land.
Yet as a company that has grown up with the sea, we are intuitively aware of the occupational hazards we face. Health and safety are a priority because we care about our people, but also because our good name and our license to operate at all depend on health and safety record.
Integrating health and safety
into business processes
We are now working to integrate health and safety even more tightly into our business processes. Ultimately grounded in the Maersk Principles of Conduct, our health and safety goals are currently being elaborated in a new Group Sustainability Strategy.
While formal objectives and targets for this area are under constant revision and modernisation, health and safety are always top of mind on board our ships and rigs, in our offices and at the highest levels of management. In fact, it’s an item on the agenda at every one of the approximately 25 meeting the Executive Board holds each year.
