Background

- The A.P. Moller - Maersk Group comprises A.P. Moller - Maersk A/S and subsidiaries. The Group has developed into a global company, employing about 120,000 people in around 130 countries

- We’re involved in a wide range of activities within the Transport, Energy, Offshore, Retail and Manufacturing industries.
 
- A.P. Moller - Maersk A/S was established in the Danish town of Svendborg in 1904 by Mr Arnold Peter Møller together with his father, Captain Peter Mærsk Møller.

- On the death of his father in 1965, Mr Mærsk Mc-Kinney Moller assumed the leadership of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group. In 1993 he withdrew from the day-to-day management, and today the Group is headed by Mr Nils S. Andersen who took over as the fourth Group Chief Executive Officer and Partner in 2007.

- Mr Michael Pram Rasmussen took over the chairmanship after Mr Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller in 2003.

Management Board
The Executive Board consists of: Nils S. Andersen (Group CEO), Jakob Thomasen, Eivind Kolding, Søren Skou, Claus V. Hemmingsen and Trond Westlie. The Executive Board is in charge of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group’s day-to-day management.

Business activities

Container shipping and related activities

Maersk Line -  the largest container shipping company in the world with a fleet comprising more than 500 vessels and 1,900,000 TEU (Twenty foot Equivalent Unit – a container 20 feet long).

Safmarine –  focused primarily on container transport to and from Africa with over 40 vessels

Damco -  one of the world’s largest providers of freight forwarding and supply chain management

Maersk Line Ltd -  US-based subsidiary which manages a fleet of US-flagged vessels engaged in commercial liner services.

MCC - delivering containerised cargo to key Intra-Asian ports through an extensive feeder network.

Container Inland Services – Trucking, Depots, Container Sales and Equipment Repair

Maersk Container Industry - manufacturing containers in China, Denmark and UK

APM Terminals
APM Terminals -  develops and operates container terminals and related activities in 50 terminals in 34 countries, with headquarters in Rotterdam. 

Tankers, offshore and other shipping activities

Maersk Tankers  own and operate a large fleet of crude oil carriers, product tankers and gas carriers, with a fleet size of over 225 vessels.

Maersk Drilling & Maersk FPSOs -  a leading global operator of high-technology drilling rigs and floating production units.

Maersk Supply Service  - over 50 vessels providing towage of drilling rigs and platforms as well as supply service to the offshore industry.

Maersk LNG - owns and operates 8 LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carriers. Fleet of 2 steam vessels and 6 Dual Fuel Diesel.

Svitzer -  a diverse fleet of more than 500 vessels operating in more than 35 countries, Svitzer is involved in towage, salvage and offshore support.

Oil and gas activities

Maersk Oil  currently produces more than 600,000 barrels of Oil per day in the Danish and British part of the North Sea, offshore Qatar, Algeria and Kazakhstan.

In addition, Maersk Oil participates in exploration activities in the North Sea (Denmark, United Kingdom and Norway), North Africa (Algeria), West Africa (Angola), the Middle East (Qatar and Oman), Brazil and the US Gulf of Mexico.
 
Retail activities
Dansk Supermarked Group incorporates: Bilka (hypermarkets), Føtex (quality supermarkets), F. Salling (department stores) and Netto (discount supermarket) located in Denmark, Germany, United Kingdom, Poland and Sweden.

Other industrial companies and interest in Danske Bank

Star Air - 11 Boeing 767 cargo aircraft, primarily engaged in long-term contract flying for United Parcel Service (UPS) in Europe.

Danske Bank - A.P. Moller - Maersk owns a 20% stake in one of the biggest banks in Scandinavia.
