On Saturday, 9 March 2002 Odense Steel Shipyard presented another newbuilding in the series of large post-panamax container vessels built for A.P. Møller. Mrs Lulu Tøpholm, wife of Mr Jan Tøpholm, Managing Director of Tøpholm & Westermann ApS, honoured the owner by naming the Yard’s newbuilding CHARLOTTE MÆRSK.

CHARLOTTE MÆRSK adds to the series of large container vessels with a capacity of approx. 6,600 TEU (twenty-foot containers), which also includes a considerable number of reefer containers.

The rational and automated ship is equipped with a 12-cylinder HSD-Wärtsila Sulzer diesel engine manufactured in Korea.

CHARLOTTE MÆRSK, which will leave for sea trial in Skagerrak a few days after the naming, will after delivery later this month enter Maersk Sealand’s worldwide liner service.

CHARLOTTE MÆRSK is registered in Fredericia and will be commanded by Captain Torben Bjørn Christiansen with Gert Planch Jørgensen as Chief Engineer. The vessel will have a crew of 15.
