On Saturday 4 February 2006 Odense Steel Shipyard presented its latest newbuilding for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group.
Mrs Birgitte Hartnack Federspiel, accompanied by her husband, Ambassador Ulrik Federspiel, Permanent Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, honoured A.P. Moller - Maersk and the Yard by naming the newbuilding GERD MÆRSK.
GERD MÆRSK is the fifth vessel in a new series of technologically advanced container vessels operated with extensive automation. The choice of materials for the vessel as well as the interior is of highest quality and a characteristic for container vessels built at Odense Steel Shipyard.
With its 12-cylinder Wärtsilä RT-flex diesel engine from Doosan Engine Co., which develops 93,000 BHP, GERD MÆRSK will after delivery enter Maersk Sealand’s worldwide liner service and thereby together with the other vessels contribute to a global, competitive and flexible transport for the company’s customers.
GERD MÆRSK will be registered in Dragør and will be commanded by Captain Kristian Johansen with Gert Poulsen as Chief Engineer.
