On Wednesday 3 August 2005 Odense Steel Shipyard presented its latest newbuilding for the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group.
Mrs Kirsten Bendtsen, accompanied by her husband, Bendt Bendtsen, Minister of Economic and Business Affairs, honoured A.P. Moller – Maersk and the Yard by naming the newbuilding GRETE MÆRSK.
GRETE MÆRSK is the second ship in a new series of updated container ships which are produced with the purpose of securing an extensive automation when operating the vessel. The choice of materials for the vessel as well as the interior is of highest quality based on Danish design – a characteristic for the container ships built at Odense Steel Shipyard.
GRETE MÆRSK is yet another environmentally friendly vessel from the Yard.
With its 12-cylinder diesel engine from HSD-Wärtsilä Sulzer, which develops 93,000 BHP, GRETE MÆRSK will after delivery enter Maersk Sealand’s worldwide liner service and thereby together with the other vessels contribute to a global, competitive and flexible quality transport for the company’s customers.
GRETE MÆRSK is registered in Copenhagen and will be commanded by Captain Henrik Larsen with Karl Johan Frigaard as Chief Engineer.
